Club FAQ’s
- Do you have a coach? We do not have a coach, but we do have several experienced runners who are always happy to offer advice, with the caveat that we are not professionals.
- Do you have a training program? Yes! In the fall we start a training program for the BCS Marathon and Half Marathon. As a member, you will get access to a training plan and our workouts will follow the training plan.
- I just want to run for fun. Can I still join the group for runs? Of course! Many of our members don’t necessarily follow the structure of the runs described above. We are first and foremost a community that’s here to make running fun and accessible.
- How are the workouts structured? We follow the Run Less, Run Faster philosophy. Our runs follow the three key workouts in Run Less, Run Faster.
- Monday is a track workout. We will usually do repeats of 400 m – 1600 m with a few minutes of rest in between. You don’t need any track experience to join us for these workouts. Everyone runs the repeats at their own effort, but you should be running the repeats fast to lose your breath or be unable to hold a conversation. Inside lanes are reserved for the fastest runners, while the more relaxed runners need to stay in lanes 2-5 of the track. Walking is best in the outmost lane to avoid collisions.
- Wednesday is a tempo run or a mid-distance run. Tempo runs are a combination of speed and endurance, so they’re not run as fast as track but still at an honest effort.
- Saturday is a long run. Long runs are meant to develop your aerobic endurance; so they are run at an easier effort than tempo runs, but we will run several miles further than on Wednesdays.
- What is the best way to get updates about the workouts? Join our Facebook group Brazos Runners Club or join our e-mail list. We send out updates and links route maps a day or two before the workout.
- How much is it to join? $30/year. You can join under the “Membership” tab on our website. Members get access to a training plan and discounts to local races and Brazos Running Company.
- I’m pretty fast/slow. Will I have people to run with? Yes! Our members run anywhere from 5:45 min/mi to 12:00 min/mi. Try to get to your first workout a little early and introduce yourself to a board member (or anyone there, we’re friendly), and we will do our best to match you up with someone close to your preferred speed.
- I want to try out the club. Do I have to pay? No, feel free to come try out a few runs before you officially join. We just ask that when you start coming regularly you pay the $30/year membership fee. It helps us pay our RRCA insurance.
- When are your workouts? We have three workouts per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
- Mondays we (usually) meet at the Texas A&M Consolidated Middle School track on Anderson St.
- Wednesdays and Saturdays we meet at Harvey Washbangers.
- In the spring and summer, Monday and Wednesday workouts start at 7:00 PM.
In the fall and winter, Monday and Wednesday workouts start at 6:30 PM.
Saturdays always officially start at 7:00 AM.
