BRC Tempo Workout 9/29/2021

In late August, we will begin the 16 week training program for the BCS Half and Full Marathon, which is on December 12th. Brazos Runners Club (BRC) members have access to training plans (posted at https://brazosrunnersclub.com/) that span a range of levels:

Fun Half Marathon: Designed for those who have completed some shorter (5-10 K) races, who have an established running base of  ~12-16 miles per week, who would like to conquer the half marathon distance (13.1 miles).

Fast Half Marathon: For experienced runners who have an established running base of  ~18-22 miles per week, are comfortable with the half marathon distance, and hope to achieve a new personal record.

Fun Marathon: Designed for runners who have previously run a few half marathons, who have an established running base of  ~20-24 miles per week, and would like to conquer the marathon distance (26.2 miles).

Marathon: For experienced runners who have run multiple half and full marathons and have an established running base of  ~26-30 miles per week.

Marathon (BQ version): For experienced runners who have run multiple marathons, an established running base of  ~32-36 miles per week, and are seeking to obtain a new personal record or qualify for Boston.

The training plans vary in the rate at which they build your long run distance, but all are demanding and assume a solid foundation. To help assure that you are prepared to start the training program at the end of August, we have put together a 6 week pre-training schedule that will build your long run mileage/endurance. On these pre-training long runs, don’t worry about speed. (After all, you are running during the hottest time of the year and need to slow down to keep from over heating.) Instead, just focus on hitting your goal mileage. We will build speed later in training, as temperatures cool.

Wednesday run (6:30 pm) will be STERN Routes:

Route Slip (3.5 Mile)

Route Slip (4.8 Mile)

Route Slip (6.3 Mile) (Strava route)

On the maps- you'll see some icons (which are hyperlinks to more info):

The   "Faucet" is an outdoor water fountain

The    "Water Jug" is a (possible) BRC water jug location (the Starter will announce actual jug(s) location)

The     "Star" is a location with indoor restroom and water

Workouts are rain or shine, however, we will cancel in the event of lightning.
